  • Senior Speech Language Therapist - Kaiwhakatikatika i te Reo Kōrero
  • Integrated Stroke Unit (ISU) and Rehabilitation ward, North Shore Hospital, Health New Zealand – Waitematā District.
  • 9FTE (72 hours per fortnight) fixed term.

An exciting opportunity awaits: this position will give you the opportunity to provide leadership and show your expertise within the SLT and stroke services at North Shore Hospital. This role is fixed term from 16th February 2026 to 5th February 2027

About the Role

If you are a senior speech-language therapist with expertise in stroke/rehabilitation who is looking for a change, we have an exciting opportunity for you. We are looking for an SLT with advanced knowledge and clinical skills to provide leadership and clinical expertise for the SLT stroke and rehabilitation service here at Health New Zealand – Waitematā.

You would be joining a forward thinking, innovative team of SLTs who work across North Shore and Waitakere Hospitals. This includes our brand new 150-bed hospital, Totara Haumaru, on our North Shore site. Our SLT team is small, and our culture of openness and shared learning is strong. You would work in partnership with other senior SLTs, the SLT advanced clinician, and alongside the SLT Clinical Leader and SLT Professional Clinical Leader. 

About the Team/Service/ Location

Clinically, you would work in the ISU and rehabilitation wards alongside the SLT team and IDT colleagues, to ensure best practice across the stroke care continuum. You will work on the acute inpatient wards when required.

Here at Health NZ - Waitematā, we provide a 7-day per week SLT service, offering our patients care on weekends and allowing our staff the financial and roster benefits of a weekend service. You would be expected to participate equitably in providing this service.

About you

Key skills required for this role:

  • Strong clinical skillset to support working in an inpatient rehabilitation environment, including competencies in instrumental assessment (VFSS and / or FEES) and advanced competencies in assessment and therapy for patients with communication difficulties.
  • Ability to lead daily caseload management meetings
  • Ability to participate in service development and quality project work
  • Commitment to evidence based practice and promoting the translation of clinical research into practice
  • Experience with leading and / or coaching and developing others.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Essential Qualifications:

  • New Zealand professional qualification in Speech-Language Therapy, or NZSTA approval of overseas qualification
  • NZSTA membership
  • A minimum of 5 years’ clinical experience
