About the Role

As a Registered Nurse in the General Surgical & Vascular Surgery Ward, you will provide safe, evidence‑based and compassionate nursing care to patients recovering from a variety of surgical interventions. You will complete comprehensive assessments, develop and implement care plans, monitor patient progress, and support patients and their whānau to understand their treatment and recovery pathways.

Your work will involve postoperative monitoring, wound and drain care, pain management (including working with PCA and epidural analgesia where certified), patient education, and coordination with the wider clinical team. You’ll play a key role in delivering smooth and effective care throughout the perioperative journey.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Based at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldier Memorial Hospital, our General & Vascular Surgery team is a supportive multidisciplinary group of nurses, surgeons, allied health professionals, and administrative staff. The team values collaboration, excellent communication, and delivering safe, culturally responsive care to patients and their whānau.

About you

You are a compassionate, motivated and clinically capable nurse who enjoys working in a busy surgical setting. You will have:

  • Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a valid Annual Practising Certificate.
  • Strong clinical assessment and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent time‑management and the ability to prioritise in a high‑acuity environment.
  • PCA/epidural certification (or willingness to achieve this).
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equitable health outcomes.

Desired:

  • Surgical nursing experience.
  • A current PDRP portfolio.
