About the Role
As a Registered Nurse in the General Surgical, Vascular & Plastics Outpatient Unit, you will deliver safe, high ‑ quality, patient ‑ centred nursing care to people attending specialist surgical clinics. You will undertake comprehensive assessments, provide evidence ‑ based care and education, support minor procedures, and contribute to effective clinic flow and patient experience.
Your role will include wound assessment and management, supporting negative pressure wound therapy as required, assisting with minor procedures, maintaining accurate documentation, and working closely with surgeons, nurses, allied health and administrative teams. You will also support new staff and students, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and contribute to safe staffing through Variance Response Management (VRM).
This role is ideal for a nurse who enjoys outpatient work, values continuity of care, and has a strong interest in surgical nursing and wound management.

About the Team/Service/ Location
You will be part of the General Surgical, Vascular & Plastics Outpatients Department at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldier Memorial Hospital. The service provides specialist outpatient care across surgical disciplines, working closely with inpatient wards, theatres, radiology and community services to support patients throughout their surgical journey.

About you
You are a skilled and organised Registered Nurse with a calm, professional approach and strong clinical judgement. You will have:
- Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a valid Annual Practising Certificate
- Clinical nursing experience within a surgical setting
- Sound wound care knowledge and experience
- Strong communication and time ‑ management skills
- Confidence working as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity and culturally safe practice
Desired:
- Outpatient clinic experience
- Experience in general surgery, vascular or plastics
- Experience with negative pressure wound therapy
- Experience supporting minor surgical procedures
- A current PDRP portfolio (or willingness to complete)
