About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our Anatomical Pathology team in Whangārei. In this role, you will rotate through all core areas of Histology—including microtomy, dissection, special stains, and immunohistochemistry (IHC)—while contributing to a high‑quality, patient‑centred diagnostic service.
You will be responsible for the accurate receipt, registration, processing, and reporting of specimens, including referral specimens, in accordance with established protocols. You’ll also take part in quality, safety, and operational activities that support the smooth and efficient running of the laboratory.

You’ll be joining a supportive, collaborative team of scientists, technicians, pathologists, and administrative staff who work closely together to achieve the best outcomes for patients. We pride ourselves on being a friendly, social group who look out for one another.
Our laboratory has recently moved into a purpose‑built, state‑of‑the‑art facility—a bright, spacious, modern environment designed to support both excellent science and staff wellbeing. About you
- New Zealand Registered and licenced Medical Laboratory Scientist
- Work experience in a Medical Laboratory Anatomical Pathology department
- Work experience with Laboratory Information system
- Ability to apply high-level scientific judgement to perform, interpret various sample types
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a team member
Desirable
- A basic understanding of health/illness and prevention of infection
- Previous experience within a Healthcare setting
- Experience working in an Anatomical Pathology department including knowledge of microtomy, dissection and Immunohistochemistry
