About the Roles

The Radiation Therapy service is a vital part of Te Pūriri o Te Ora Regional Cancer and Blood Service, and we are thrilled to expand into Whangārei with a brand-new, purpose-built unit. These roles give you the opportunity to help establish and shape Northland’s first dedicated Radiation Oncology service, while still collaborating closely with the expertise and resources of the wider Northern Region, including Auckland.

We are welcoming applications for permanent Staff, Senior, Specialist, and Advanced Practitioner positions.

Staff Radiation Therapist Roles:

As a Staff Radiation Therapist, you’ll be part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, delivering patient-focused Radiation Therapy while contributing to service development, quality improvement, and mentoring junior staff. You’ll bring clinical expertise, a commitment to continuous learning, and a passion for equitable, evidence-based cancer care.

These are permanent positions in Whangārei offering full-time or part-time arrangements.

In these senior positions, you will coordinate resources, workflow, and staffing within your clinical team to ensure patients receive the best possible care, while helping to set up new processes and standards for the Northland service.

Advanced Practitioner Role 
This role requires a Master’s qualification in a relevant field, or evidence that you are currently working towards one. As an Advanced Practitioner, you will bring expert clinical and leadership skills to enhance patient care, mentor colleagues, and contribute to service development and innovation. This is a key opportunity to drive advanced practice within the new Northland service.

These are permanent positions based in Northland, with opportunities for full time or part-time work. This is a once-in-a-career opportunity to be part of a brand-new service and make a lasting impact on cancer care in the region.

About the Team/Service/Location

The Radiation Oncology service is part of Te Pūriri o Te Ora Regional Cancer and Blood Service, delivering around 48,000 radiation treatments annually across the Northern Region. The new Whangārei unit will bring advanced cancer care closer to home, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances to Auckland.

The centre will feature a Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator with HyperSight and SGRT, an additional bunker enabling future expansion, a Siemens SOMATOM X.cite CT scanner, and the ARIA Oncology Information System. An on-site Planning team will utilise the state-of-the-art RayStation Treatment Planning System to support treatment planning and delivery across a range of techniques, including DIBH, EBRT, IGRT, SGRT, VMAT, and stereotactic radiotherapy.

You’ll work alongside a supportive and collaborative team of Radiation Therapists, Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists, and support staff. The service has strong academic links, advanced technology, and opportunities to engage in teaching, research, and quality improvement projects.

About Te Pūriri o Te Ora -  Kia ora from our team!

Te Pūriri o Te Ora is the name that has been gifted to our northern regional cancer and blood services by Kahurangi Rangimārie Naida Glavish of Ngāti Whātua, Chief Advisor Tikanga for Te Toka Tumai Auckland. Te Pūriri o Te Ora means "the Pūriri tree of wellbeing" and speaks to the many qualities and gifts of the Pūriri tree and our aspiration to provide a place of healing and wellbeing for our communities.

Te Pūriri o Te Ora is the biggest cancer and blood service within Aotearoa, providing care to approximately 40% of the country. We provide a wide range of services including Medical and Radiation Oncology, Haematology, Āwhinatia Te Tangata (specialist Māori Health team), Cancer Support Team (specialist psychological and social support), Research, Genetics Services, and the NZ Familial Gastrointestinal Cancer Service.

The values that underpin the way we care and work with patients, whānau and kaimahi across Te Pūriri o Te Ora are Whanaungatanga, Manaakitanga, Kotahitanga, Āhurutanga, Mana Motuhake and Wairuatanga.

We’re looking for Radiation Therapists who are ready to take the next step in their career and make a real difference in Northland’s brand-new service. You will have:

  • A recognised tertiary qualification in Radiation Therapy
  • MRTB registration and a valid APC
  • Specialist knowledge relevant to the role(s) that interest you
