An exciting opportunity has become available to work as a Clinical Nurse Specialist-Diabetes, Designated Prescriber and join our passionate Diabetes Service and multi-disciplinary team at Health NZ Te Whatu Ora Lakes.
This position provides diabetes education to people with diabetes (across the life span), their whanau and support person(s); the nursing management of complex diabetes; and the professional development of health professionals working with diabetes.

About the Role
The position offers great variety and opportunity. The Clinical Nurse Specialist – Diabetes, Designated Prescriber role covers diabetes in paediatric, adolescent, and adult age groups; supports inpatient management of diabetes; provides education and management of diabetes in outpatient clinics; includes nursing management of diabetes in pregnancy; supports insulin pump training and therapy for people with T1DM; involves the provision of diabetes information and education for health professionals.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Our small team of CNS-Diabetes at Rotorua and Taupo Hospitals works closely with the endocrinologist, obstetricians, paediatricians, dietitians, medical & nursing teams, and primary care practices.
This permanent part time position, 0.7FTE, is based in Rotorua and with some work at Taupo / Turangi.
Work days - Monday to Friday, 0800 – 1630hrs

About you
For this CNS-Diabetes, Designated Prescriber position you will need :
- Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) & current Annual Practising Certificate
- New Zealand Nursing Council Registration (NCNZ) as Designated Nurse Prescriber (near completion of this qualification may be considered)
- A relevant post graduate qualification
- Minimum of 10 years post registration, with at least 5 years recent medical nursing experience
- Demonstrate a caring and compassionate attitude towards clients, whanau and co-workers
