About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and clinically minded pharmacist to join our Quality and Safe Use of Medicines Team in the role of Senior Pharmacist – Medicine Information.
This is an exciting opportunity to combine your passion for evidence-based medicine, clinical problem-solving and patient safety. Influence safe medicine use at both patient and organisational level. You will play a key part in delivering and shaping our medicines information service, supporting safe and effective medicine use across the organisation. Use your research and communication skills to answer medicine information queries and undertake other activities such as writing and reviewing guidelines.
Whether you are already working in a medicine information service or are looking to grow into this specialty, we welcome pharmacists with strong clinical knowledge, curiosity, and a passion for improving patient care.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide responses to medicine information enquiries from a range of healthcare professionals.
- Help lead and develop our medicines information service.
- Be involved with other medicines management, medication safety and quality improvement initiatives.
- Build relationships and collaborate with other Health New Zealand medicines information pharmacists to share expertise and strengthen practice.
- Liaise with other health professionals across the organisation.
- Train pharmacists, intern pharmacists and students.

About the Service
Pharmacy Services at Waikato Hospital provides services to the hospital and to six smaller rural hospitals and care units across the Waikato region. The pharmacy service comprises five teams: Clinical Services, Dispensary and Supply, Oncology, Haematology and Compounding Service, Quality and Safe Use of Medicines (QSUM) and our onsite community pharmacy service (Pharmacy on Meade).
You will be a member of the QSUM team, but as part of the wider pharmacy team you will also interact and work with pharmacy staff in the other teams. As a member of the wider pharmacy team, you will contribute to the in-patient dispensary as needed, with occasional involvement in weekend rosters.
About you
Skills and experience you will need to be considered for the role:
Essential
- Registration with the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand.
- A current annual practising certificate with the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand (or able to register once period of supervision undertaken, as required by PCNZ).
Highly Desirable
- At least 5 years of post-registration pharmacy experience, with three or more years in hospital
- Experience in the provision of medicines information
- Involvement with medicine safety initiatives
- Post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy
- Effective communicator with excellent organisational skills
- Experience training others
