About the Role

Working as a Renal Advanced Trainee

Nephrology encompasses care of patients with acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, dialysis and renal transplantation. Trainees can expect to develop a greater understanding of clinical Nephrology, basic science and physiology, clinical research and procedural skills.  All three districts offer structured teaching opportunities and are affiliated with the University of Auckland School of Medicine. Medicine Registrar Runs

Medicine Registrar runs in the Auckland region are six months in length, following which you may rotate into a different run. Example run descriptions for the 2026 training year can be viewed on the Auckland Doctors website. For further information on Advanced Training in New Zealand please visit the RACP website.

About you

Advanced Training in Renal Medicine

  •  You will need to have passed the RACP written exam or be registered to sit the clinical exam for 2026

  • These positions will only be offered to those who have passed the clinical exam and completed basic training. For those completing the exam later this year, if you do not pass the clinical exam then you will no longer be eligible for an advanced training position and may be considered for a run allocation.

  • You will need to be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Support and assistance with this process is provided.

Six-month allocations for those interested in Renal Medicine experience as part of General Medicine or other Specialty training:

  • Must be at least a RACP Basic Trainee Registrar.

  • Eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Support and assistance with this process is provided.

If you are already a Renal advanced trainee and a current employee in the Auckland region then you do not need to apply via this job listing. You will have independent meetings with your specialty.

If you are a current RMO employee in the Auckland region seeking a six-month allocation or applying for advanced training in Renal then you will need to formally apply.
