Matanga Tapuhi Nurse Practitioner – Inpatient mental health unit- Te Whatu Ora Waitematā

Our community mental health team is seeking a Registered Nurse Practitioner with a scope in Mental Health to provide expert senior clinical nursing leadership in providing comprehensives assessment, diagnosis and management of mental health needs for tāngata whai i te ora engaged with Adult Community Mental Health Teams.
About the role
This full-time Nurse Practitioner / Mātanga Tapuhi role provides advanced clinical leadership within our Adult Community Mental Health Recovery Team. Practising both autonomously and collaboratively, you will deliver expert assessment, diagnosis and management of adults with complex mental health needs in a community setting.
Working as a senior clinician within the CMHT multidisciplinary team, you will provide recovery-focused, person-centred care, including prescribing and non-pharmacological interventions. You will hold a clinical caseload aligned to recovery priorities, supporting relapse prevention, crisis planning, and continuity of care, while contributing to safe transitions between community, acute and inpatient services when required.
The role also includes mentoring and supporting staff, contributing to service development, and championing evidence-based, trauma-informed and culturally safe practice. A strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity for Māori underpins all aspects of practice, working in partnership with tāngata whai i te ora and their whānau to support sustained recovery in the community.
This role also provides significant leadership opportunities: mentoring colleagues, contributing to service development, and partnering with clinical leaders to influence innovation in mental health care. With a strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity for Māori, you will help shape service delivery that honours partnership, protection and participation for tāngata whai i te ora and their whānau.

About you
To be considered for this position, the following will be required:
- Registered Nurse Practitioner as approved and endorsed by the Nursing Council of New Zealand, with scope to practice in mental health
- Contemporary mental health nursing experience with advanced clinical practice capability
- At least 7 years’ experience in mental health nursing
- Master of Nursing degree with prescribing practicum
