About the Role
We are seeking an experienced senior nurse with a strong commitment to developing others in both clinical and cultural practice to join our Professional Development Unit as a Nurse Educator – Cultural Support.
Working in partnership with the Nurse Consultant Cultural Workforce Development, you will design and deliver high-quality, evidence-based education to strengthen and grow the Māori and Pacific nursing workforce across Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, Waikato.
You will provide in‑practice cultural mentorship, coaching and support to Māori and Pacific nurses, enabling learning, career progression and leadership development.
The role is based at Waikato Hospital and includes regular travel to rural hospitals and partner organisations across the district.

About you
You are a senior nurse who brings credibility, cultural expertise and a passion for teaching and mentoring others. You will have:
- demonstrated ability to apply Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice to improve health outcomes and equity for Māori.
- demonstrated ability to guide others in culturally safe practice.
- sound knowledge of Tikanga and Te Reo Māori, and understanding of Māori and/or Pacific models of health and wellbeing.
- a minimum of five years’ post‑registration nursing experience.
- experience facilitating and assessing learning for individuals and groups.
- Expert PDRP, or demonstrated ability to practise at an expert/senior level.
- excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
- an adult teaching qualification (e.g. Certificate in Adult Teaching or preceptor qualification).
- evidence of successful postgraduate level study.
- Prior experience as a nurse educator would be an advantage.
