About the Role

The Duty Nurse Manager role has nursing professional, clinical leadership and operational management accountability in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams for inpatient hospital safety. Daily operational management includes a clinical safety overview of inpatient areas, capacity planning, seasonal variation response, variance response management and acute patient flow.

The purpose of this role is to provide senior nursing leadership and support to clinical teams to ensure the delivery of safe, high quality care and treatment that enables the best possible outcomes for patients and service users.

This involves In Hours: Bed Management and resource management, After-hours: coordination and management of operational systems, processes, and resources to enable hospital services to function effectively and meet the needs of staff, patients and families, and the community.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Duty Manager team are a small but dynamic group of Senior Nurses who are responsible for ensuring the safe, appropriate and efficient management of staff and resources across Te Whatu Ora, Te Tai Tokerau hospital sites. You will have an opportunity to hone your decision-making skills and to develop a greater understanding of how the hospital operates. The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic team player, who has a flexible ‘can do’ attitude.

About you

  • Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and holder of a current annual practicing certificate.
  • A registered nurse with at least 5 years post registration experience, with 2 years in an acute setting.
  • Post graduate nursing qualification or working towards
  • ALERT Course
  • Previous experience in a senior nursing and/or patient flow role is highly desirable.
  • Ability to plan, organise and direct the activities of others
