About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and dynamic Specialist Clinical Immunologist to join our supportive and enthusiastic team at Waikato Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity for a physician who is passionate about delivering high‑quality immunology care within a collaborative environment.
You will work as a Clinical Immunologist within the Rheumatology team, with strong professional links to the Te Toka Tumai (Auckland) Immunology Service.
This role also includes 0.2 FTE Immunopathology responsibilities, including:
Quality Assurance Review Ensuring compliance with laboratory standards, protocols, and accreditation requirements.
Method Validation Assessing and verifying new or updated testing methods for accuracy, precision, and clinical suitability.
Reference Range Review Evaluating and updating reference intervals to reflect current population data and clinical relevance.
Diagnostic Advice Based on Test Results Providing expert interpretation and guidance to clinicians on immunological test findings and their implications for patient care.
General Technical Advice for Immunological Testing Offering expertise on methodologies, troubleshooting, and best‑practice recommendations.
The salary for this position is based on experience and aligned with the ASMS SECA agreement. Additional benefits include:

About the Team / Service
You will join a large, dedicated multidisciplinary team of physicians, registrars, clinical nurse specialists, allied health professionals, and administrative staff. We encourage active involvement in teaching, continuing medical education, and quality improvement initiatives.
Our service is committed to ongoing development to meet the needs of our patients, with a strong focus on collaboration, service innovation, and customer‑centred care.
About You
You will be an experienced Clinical Immunologist with:
Vocational registration (or eligibility for vocational registration) with the Medical Council of New Zealand
A current practising certificate
Qualification as a specialist Internal Medicine Physician
Preferably a minimum of two years’ experience as a Specialist in Immunology (exceptions may be considered depending on qualifications)
A current full driver’s licence
Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in healthcare
