Waikato Hospital’s Respiratory & Sleep Department has a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and dynamic physician to join an enthusiastic and highly skilled team.

 

About the Role

You will join six other respiratory physicians in a busy inpatient ward and provide consultations to a wide range of inpatient services, alongside delivering the full spectrum of general respiratory and specialty clinics.

This role includes acute inpatient respiratory consults and procedures, as well as elective respiratory services such as outpatient clinics and bronchoscopy—covering both flexible bronchoscopy and linear EBUS. Our service also has a strong research focus, supported by an established respiratory laboratory and a dedicated sleep laboratory.

 

About the Team/ Service

We offer:

  • A large, dedicated team of physicians, registrars, clinical nurse specialists, research nurses, physiologists and administrative staff.

  • A new inpatient ward, outpatient clinics, Sleep Clinic/Lab and lung function lab within one of the largest hospitals in New Zealand.

  • Opportunities to expand and lead a fully functional sleep laboratory.

The salary for this position will be based on experience and aligned with the ASMS SECA agreement. Additional benefits include KiwiSaver/superannuation contributions, shift allowances, professional development opportunities and wellness support.

About You

As a specialist respiratory physician, you will have completed advanced training in respiratory medicine, ideally with a strong clinical background in sleep medicine/non‑invasive ventilation and Pleural Intervention/Pleural Disease, although this is not essential.

You will also be vocationally registered, or eligible for vocational registration, with the Medical Council of New Zealand in the Internal Medicine scope of practice.
