About the Role

As an Associate Clinical Nurse Manager (ACNM) in the Emergency Department, you will support the Clinical Nurse Manager with the day ‑ to ‑ day operational leadership of a dynamic, high ‑ acuity environment. You’ll provide clinical oversight, coordinate safe staffing and patient flow, and ensure timely, effective care for patients presenting with a wide range of acute conditions.

You’ll play a key role in supporting and guiding nursing staff, providing clinical leadership during busy shifts, assisting with escalation and decision ‑ making, and contributing to a positive, resilient team culture. The role also includes supporting quality improvement initiatives, contributing to patient safety and clinical governance activities, and ensuring service delivery aligns with best practice and organisational priorities.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Emergency Department at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldier Memorial Hospital is a busy, multidisciplinary service providing 24/7 care to acutely unwell and injured patients. You’ll work closely with the Clinical Nurse Manager, nursing team, ED physicians, allied health and support services, in an environment that values teamwork, adaptability and high ‑ quality care.

About you

You are an experienced and confident Emergency Department nurse with strong leadership capability and excellent clinical judgement. You will have:

  • Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a valid Annual Practising Certificate
  • Significant clinical experience in Emergency or acute care settings
  • Demonstrated leadership ability or experience supporting teams in a senior nurse role
  • Excellent communication, prioritisation and decision ‑ making skills
  • Ability to remain calm and provide leadership in high ‑ pressure situations
  • Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and clinical governance
  • A current PDRP portfolio at proficient level or above
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and commitment to equitable health outcomes

Desired:

  • Postgraduate qualification (or working towards)
  • Core Advanced certification
  • Experience with roster coordination, patient flow or service improvement initiatives
