About the Role

Are you interested in embarking on an exciting career in cardiac ultrasound? We are looking for a passionate and dedicated trainee to join our team.

 As a trainee in cardiac ultrasound, you will perform and reporting on transthoracic cardiac ultrasound examinations and assisting with trans oesophageal and other echo supported procedures with supervision. You will work across various settings. Including inpatient and outpatient areas, acute needs in ED, ICU and theatre, and assist in other diagnostic areas when required. We also contribute to our satellite echocardiography clinics in our outlying communities.

 Key responsibilities:

  • Perform supervised transthoracic cardiac ultrasound examinations and assist with transoesophageal procedures.
  • Support both inpatient and outpatient services, addressing acute needs in ED, ICU, and theatre.
  • Collaborate with diagnostic teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Participate in our outreach clinics in the community.

The Cardiac ultrasound service at Waikato Hospital delivers a comprehensive range of invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures to our local community. Equipped with advanced technology, our department performs over 9,00 scans annually, including leading-edge 4D echocardiography

Waikato Hospital is a major regional hospital in Hamilton and is a leading tertiary teaching hospital located in Hamilton, New Zealand, serving as the regional hub for the Midland area, which includes the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Lakes, Tairawhiti, and Taranaki districts. About you

Required skills & experience you will need to be considered for this role:

  • Enrolment in or willingness to pursue a postgraduate diploma in cardiac ultrasound at Auckland University.
  • Have the ability to register as a Trainee cardiac sonographer with the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologist Board (MRTB).
  • A passion for cardiac health and patient care
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
