About the Role
We currently have a permanent part-time (0.4FTE) Allied Health Assistant position available within the acute inpatient wards at North Shore Hospital. There is a possibility for further FTE to be added to this role in the future. In this role you will work across medical, orthopaedic, and surgical wards, supporting patients with therapy interventions, exercise programs, and activities to aid recovery and rehabilitation. You will provide therapy, motivation and support to a variety of adult patients, carrying out a range of tasks and activities to support them.
This role involves working with a multidisciplinary team, supporting and assisting Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Language Therapists. You will carry out prescribed interventions with patients on the wards, under the guidance of the Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist and/or Speech Language Therapist. These programmes will be individual to the patient and will be focused on the patient’s goals and may be completed with therapists or one to one. The programmes may include supporting patients with exercises or activities to improve their day to day function, independence and communication. You will also support equipment provision as guided by therapists.
We are seeking a dedicated, honest, hard-working and reliable individual who has previous experience within a healthcare environment and working as part of a team. You must have excellent communication skills, strong time management and be proactive in your approach. You need to be able to work Monday to Friday (7.30 – 4.00pm or 8.00 – 4.30pm) and ideally must hold a current full NZ Driver’s License.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The allied health acute inpatient team work across all the acute wards, alongside other team members (nurses, doctors, pharmacists, dietitians, social workers), to improve patient function, quality of life, and overall health outcomes during their hospital stay.
About you
As an acute inpatient Allied Health Assistant you require:
- Previous experience working in health – preferably familiar with working in a hospital setting
- Excellent communication – verbal and written
- pervious experience working in a team
