About the Role
We are inviting expressions of interest from experienced suitably qualified scientists who are interested in progressing their career. The role is based in the Bowel Screening section (BSP) of the Specialist Chemical Pathology department at LabPlus. The BSP section provides a unique service for the NZ population. This position is full time working rostered shifts Monday to Sunday. The successful applicant will be expected to cover parts of both the day and afternoon shifts working predominantly 1030-1900 hrs.
In this role you will be required to work closely with the current Technical Specialist providing technical support to the programme, helping to implement new initiatives, ensuring accreditation requirements are met and implementing the laboratory competency assessment framework.
Applicants must be able to provide consistent training to section staff, manage documentation, maintain databases relating to stock control, return rate and key performance indicators, troubleshoot both the assay and IS issues, produce reports for the National Bowel Screening Programme and converse clearly and succinctly in meetings with external stakeholders. Key personal skills we are looking for in candidates are those who (a) are adept at task-switching (b) can remain focussed on task(s) when under pressure and (c) are comfortable in a work environment that can demand high flexibility.

LabPLUS is an IANZ accredited medical laboratory and is one of New Zealand's premier laboratories. LabPLUS are part of the state-owned Te Toka Tumai Auckland. The BSP area is part of the Specialist Chemical Pathology department which runs 2 other national programmes. The dedicated team of scientists and technicians provide an important service in screening for the early detection of bowel cancers and providing semi-quantitative results on symptomatic patients to aid in the prioritisation of colonoscopies. The area is therefore very busy and has strict turnaround time and quality requirements.

About you
As the ideal person for this role, you will have the following skills and attributes:
- NZ Registered Medical Laboratory Scientist with a current Annual Practicing Certificate
- Excellent time management with the ability to deal with issues swiftly and efficiently and to respond promptly to internal and external stakeholders
- Highly developed communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
- An attention to detail with a strong focus on quality and accreditation requirements. Familiarity with the ISO15189 standard.
- Excellent organisational and advanced computer skills
- Flexibility with working hours
