Team Leader Infection Prevention

About the Role
As the Infection Prevention Lead, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across all aspects of infection prevention services at Waitematā. Working closely with the Clinical Lead for Infection Services, you will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of infection prevention programmes, ensuring alignment with New Zealand Health and Disability Sector Standards.
In this role, you will work across North Shore and Waitākere Hospitals, while also providing oversight to other Waitematā sites and community services. This is a unique opportunity to influence system-wide practices, respond to emerging infection risks, and support high-quality, safe care for patients and staff.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Our Infection Prevention and Control team is a highly skilled group of nurses dedicated to delivering best practice infection prevention strategies across hospital and community settings. The service plays a critical role in ensuring patient safety and supporting clinical teams across the district.
About you
As an experienced Infection Prevention professional and Registered Nurse, you will bring strong leadership capability and specialist expertise to this role, along with a collaborative and adaptable approach.
- Registered Nurse with a current New Zealand practising certificate
- 5+ years’ specialist clinical experience in Infection prevention
- Diploma or certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology
- Demonstrated operational leadership experience in a healthcare setting
- Strong organisational, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work flexibly across multiple sites and manage competing priorities
- Strong analytical capability, including experience working with clinical data trends and surveillance systems
You will combine clinical credibility with sound organisational skills and a collaborative leadership style, fostering a supportive, family-friendly team environment while driving service excellence and continuous improvement.
