About the Role

Our Sterile Sciences Service (SSS) is a high-tech production facility responsible for the disinfection and sterilisation of reusable medical devices (RMDs) used directly on patients. As the first unit in New Zealand to achieve ISO 13485 accreditation, SSS utilises advanced sterilisation technologies, innovative training methodologies, combined with leading edge software to provide comprehensive support to our customers.

Operating 24/7 across two sites, SSS is powered by a diverse and multi-cultural workforce. We support 39 operating theatres, along with numerous wards, clinics and departments- processing over 7 million instruments annually for more than 45,000 surgical procedures every year. Our service plays a critical role in ensuring safe, high-quality outcomes for patients throughout their healthcare journey.

In this role you will:

  • Ensure quality compliance is consistently maintained by accurately completing and managing all relevant documentation (evidence-based), including quality forms, maintenance logs, audits, and other required records.
  • Ensure all H&S issues either observed or brought to your attention are addressed and or escalated appropriately, and an incident report is logged via Datix.
  • Prioritise productivity and communicate any delays in a timely manner to key stakeholder / customers.
  • Effectively manage staff allocations, break times, and overtime in line with service guideline, to ensure balanced workloads and staff well-being. Including managing of unplanned leave calls, accurately log staff notifications, and plan adequate coverage to maintain operations.
  • Initiate initial discussions appropriately and in a timely manner regarding staff performance, productivity or conduct concerns. Escalating to the Area Lead for further management.
  • Lead initial operational investigations/ troubleshooting while escalating issues appropriately through the right channels.
  • Champion and support implementation of change processes to improve operations. Actively attend and participate in team huddles, sharing insights – fostering a healthy team environment
  • Maintain work flow throughout the shift, working with kaimahi to best utilise the resources available to meet the work demand

About you

To thrive in this role, you will need to have the following:

  • NCEA level 1 (or an equivalent high school qualification) along with a Level 3 or Level 4 certification in Sterilisation.
  • Able to establish positive relationships and be a good team player
  • Proficient in MS Applications e.g. MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, etc
  • Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of medical terminologies & surgical instrumentation
