About the Role
As a Sonographer, you will deliver high ‑ quality diagnostic ultrasound services across a broad range of examinations, including obstetrics, gynaecology, abdominal, musculoskeletal and vascular imaging. You will produce diagnostically accurate images and technical reports to support timely radiological interpretation, while ensuring a safe, respectful and comfortable experience for patients.
You’ll work collaboratively with radiologists, medical imaging technologists, nursing staff and referring clinicians. The role also includes maintaining equipment, participating in quality assurance activities, supporting the training of student sonographers, and contributing to continuous improvement within the ultrasound service.

About the Team/Service/ Location
You will be part of the Medical Imaging (Radiology) Department at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldier Memorial Hospital, working within a supportive ultrasound team and the wider imaging service. The department provides diagnostic imaging services to acute, inpatient, outpatient and community ‑ based patients, supported by modern infrastructure and strong clinical leadership.

About you
You are a qualified, patient ‑ focused sonographer with strong technical skills and a professional, compassionate approach. You will have:
- Current registration and practising certificate with the Medical Radiation Technologists Board in the Sonography scope of practice
- Well ‑ developed ultrasound skills, particularly in abdominal, obstetric and gynaecological imaging
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a multidisciplinary team
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality and patient safety
- Confidence managing competing demands in a clinical environment
- Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity and culturally safe practice
Desired:
- Experience in musculoskeletal, vascular (including carotid) or paediatric ultrasound
- Experience supporting or training students
- Experience applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in practice
