About the Role

As a Simulation Technician, you’ll support clinical training activities at Te Toka Tumai Auckland, including training sessions run by clinical educators in the Clinical Skills Centre (CSC) at Auckland City Hospital, and simulated clinical cases delivered by Simulation Educators throughout the organisation. This role involves preparing and maintaining simulation environments, supporting clinical staff during training, and ensuring simulation equipment and systems are fully operational.

About the Team/Service

The Simulation Technician is a member of the Te Toka Tumai Simulation Service. This service is a delivery arm of the broader Clinical Quality & Safety Service and delivers a wide range of clinical simulation training activities designed to improve clinical quality and patient safety and to reduce clinical risk.

About you

You’re a practical, hands-on professional who enjoys working in a technical environment and takes pride in ensuring systems, equipment, and training setups run smoothly. With a strong attention to detail and a proactive approach, you’re comfortable managing logistics, troubleshooting issues in real time, and supporting others to deliver high-quality outcomes. You’re organised, adaptable, and a reliable team player who understands the importance of safe, efficient environments that ultimately support better patient care.

Essential:

  • A keen interest in clinical training, including clinical simulation
  • Experience in logistics or stores within a healthcare setting
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage equipment and resources effectively
  • Working knowledge of ICT systems and audio-visual equipment
  • Understanding of occupational health and safety practices
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role

Desirable:

  • Experience as a simulation technician or supporting clinical training
  • Experience working in a large hospital or other clinical setting
  • Knowledge of medical electrical devices and clinical training equipment (e.g. full-body manikins)
  • Experience with or interest in 3D printing technologies
  • Technical skills including use of common hand tools and basic equipment maintenance
  • Understanding of quality improvement principles
