Registered Nurse – Virtual Care, Specialist Community Health Service

  • Health NZ, Te Whatu Ora, has an exciting opportunity available for experienced nurses to join the Northern Regional Virtual Care Team within our Hospital in the Service – permanent positions.

We are part of Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, the overarching organisation for New Zealand’s national health service. HNZ leads the day-to-day running of the health system, with functions delivered at local, district, regional and national levels. 

 

About the role:

We are seeking experienced, dynamic registered nurses to join our Regional Virtual Care Team within the Hospital in the Home (HITH) service. These roles will support 24/7 service delivery focused on hospital avoidance and improved patient outcomes.

 You will gain experience of how to monitor remote patients using innovative wearable Bluetooth technology and associated digital platforms. You will work as part of a highly collaborative interdisciplinary team, including, SMO’s, Nurse Practitioners, Allied Health, Kai Maanaki and Healthcare Assistants working regionally across the Northern region. In this role you will be empowered to make decisions related to patient management and clinical escalation. You will need to demonstrate a high level of communication, clinical reasoning telehealth competency and professionalism.

The shifts are 12hrs, covering a 24-hour service, Monday – Sunday, 365 days. The position offers a hybrid working environment that supports a blend of in-office and home-based working.

The role requires a range of skills including:

  • A strong communicator, as patient assessments will be completed via video or phone call.
  • Advanced clinical assessment skills, including how to detect early signs of deterioration, knowledge and understanding of cardiac conditions including Atrial Fibrillation and Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts alongside interpreting ECG’s.
  • The ability to apply critical thinking.
  • Be able to work autonomously, adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility.
  • Initiating and developing innovative approaches to problem solving.

 

Essential requirements:

  • Registered with the NZ Nursing Council
  • A minimum of 3-5 years recent clinical experience within the community &/or inpatient/ED settings
  • Proficient/Expert PDRP

 

Desired skills

  • Postgraduate study in Nursing or working towards this
  • Recent experience providing virtual care
