About the Role

  • 0.9 FTE – 72 hours per fortnight

We have an exciting opportunity for a RN with a commitment to and a passion for IP to join the team and assist the CNS’s in improving the standards of care for patients. While prior experience in Infection Prevention is preferred, we welcome applications from motivated individuals eager to contribute to a high-performing team.

As one of two Registered Nurses within the Infection Prevention team, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of care for patients with known Multi-Drug Resistant Organisms (MDROs). Your responsibilities will include contributing to audits, facilitating teaching sessions, supporting outbreak management, and assisting with documentation and education initiatives.

You will provide expert advice on infection prevention strategies to safeguard patients, staff, and visitors across Waitematā facilities. In collaboration with clinical teams, laboratory personnel, and engineering and maintenance staff, you will help implement best-practice infection control measures to reduce the risk of transmission and promote a culture of safety.

Your contribution will be vital to the delivery of safe, evidence-based care across our facilities. The role offers extensive opportunities to develop expertise in key areas of infection prevention, including: healthcare facility design and the built environment, staff education, environmental hygiene, reprocessing of reusable medical devices, infection surveillance, and vascular access management.

About the Team/Service/ Location

This position is primarily based at North Shore Hospital, where you will support Clinical Nurse Specialists with infection prevention projects and educational initiatives. Flexibility is essential, as you may occasionally be required to assist at Waitakere Hospital and other Waitematā sites.

About you

To be considered we will need the following:

  • New Zealand Registered Nurse, with a current Annual Practising Certificate
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal), with the ability to build positive relationships, demonstrate flexibility, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Proficient in IT systems with a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous quality improvement and excellence in clinical practice.
  • Capable of working independently, managing priorities effectively, and delivering high-quality outcomes with minimal supervision.
