About the Role
We are seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Hyperacute Stroke & Neurology Unit.
You will provide safe, evidence ‑ based and patient‑centred nursing care to people presenting with acute stroke and complex neurological conditions. This includes comprehensive assessment, close neurological monitoring, care planning and evaluation, and responding promptly to changes in patient condition.
You’ll work closely with neurologists, stroke physicians, nurses and allied health teams to deliver timely interventions and support early recovery and rehabilitation. You will also provide education and support to patients and whānau, contribute to VRM, maintain accurate documentation (including TrendCare), and support students and new staff within the unit.

The Hyperacute Stroke & Neurology Unit at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldier Memorial Hospital is a specialist service delivering high ‑ acuity, evidence ‑ based stroke and neurological care. The team is collaborative, skilled and committed to excellence, equity and continuous improvement.

About you
You are a confident, compassionate nurse who enjoys working in high ‑ acuity clinical environments. You will have:
- Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a valid Annual Practising Certificate.
- Strong assessment, communication and clinical decision ‑ making skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, time ‑ critical setting.
- Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equitable health outcomes.
Desired:
- A current PDRP portfolio (or willingness to complete within 12 months).
- At least 2 years’ clinical nursing experience.
- Interest or experience in stroke, neurology, or acute medical nursing.
