About the Role
We have an opportunity for a motivated Registered Midwife to join our team at the Bay of Islands Maternity Unit in Kawakawa. You will work closely with the community and hospital Midwives of the Bay of Islands. You will have the opportunity to support women and whānau throughout their pregnancy journey, helping them to achieve their own birth and health goals.
The Registered Midwife employed in this role is recognised as an autonomous practitioner who:
- Utilises professional knowledge and skill to provide a holistic approach to midwifery care that is safe and of the highest quality possible.
- Works in partnership with women to ensure they receive quality maternity care whilst they are in hospital
- Will work in partnership with women, LMCs and other members of the health care team to ensure maternity care plans are developed, implemented and reviewed to meet the needs of the woman and her baby during the inpatient stay
- Will provide emergency midwifery support as required and facilitate transfers to other maternity services when needed

About the Service/Location
The Bay of Islands Primary Maternity Unit serves whānau across the Mid North. We have 2 birth rooms and 5 postnatal rooms. Our closest secondary unit is approximately 55 minutes away in Whangarei. We are a close knit team who work collaboratively with our LMC colleagues to provide primary midwifery services to whānau.

About you
Working with a passionate, multi-disciplinary team who place great value on putting people first, you will have the standard of clinical practice and expertise necessary to effectively provide for hapū māmā and whānau needs within the service here in Te Tai Tokerau.
- Registered Midwife with a current practicing certificate with Midwifery Council of New Zealand
- Relevant knowledge and clinical experience in a midwifery/maternity setting
- The ability to work independently and be a member of a team
- Demonstrate an ability to practice in a culturally safe manner
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
