About the Role

You will work within a small, supportive team of psychologists to provide comprehensive assessment and intervention for people in the community or inpatient at Taranaki Base Hospital in New Plymouth who have health challenges. You will liaise closely with individuals, families and the multidisciplinary team and develop strong links with community services as required to provide integrated care for individuals. You will have regular supervision and support with continuing professional development.

This part-time role is in our Health Psychology service, however in combination with opportunities in other services, we may be able to offer full-time employment to the right candidate.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The health psychology team provide psychological interventions to patients for a variety of purposes. In the hospital setting, we generally work within a relatively short-term, problem-focused treatment model.

We also offer outpatient appointments to support people living with health conditions. This is predominantly for people with cancer, diabetes, and persistent pain, with some support available for other health conditions.

Te Whatu Ora Taranaki employs approximately 350 allied health professionals across its services. You will be joining the health psychology team; a friendly team of 4 that is diverse in skills and experience, a team that welcomes collaboration, and that values the contribution of each team member.  The wider psychology team has 20 skilled practitioners working in a range of physical and mental health settings.

About you

A successful applicant will have been able to demonstrate their ability to be a clear communicator, a builder of connections with clients and colleagues, and within the wider community, and have excellent time management skills. You will be independently managing a caseload of varying complexity and completing assessments with an interprofessional lens. You will be working closely with other health professions.

 

You will need to have:-

·         Registration with the New Zealand Psychologists Board and a current Annual Practicing Certificate.

·         The ability to work collaboratively with others to provide integrated care to clients with a diverse range of challenges.

·         Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and knowledge of working with Māori models of practice.

·         Ideally, you’ll have two or more years of experience working in a health or disability field of practice, but we are open to applications from early-career psychologists.

·         Working visa/NZ residence (as appropriate).
