Physiotherapist - Rotational - Fixed Term
- Based in the Waikato District
- Rotational, fixed-term position until 1 September 2026
- Full-time – 80 hours per fortnight / 1 FTE
- Availability to work between Monday to Sunday as some rotations include weekends as part of the roster

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate physiotherapist to complement our strong physiotherapy team here at Waikato Hospital.
As a successful candidate you will play a key role in assessing patients and designing treatment programmes to manage patient recovery. Additionally, you will be recommending suitable discharge plans to help patients progress along the continuum of care and help to optimise hospital flow.
This position involves all aspects of physiotherapy practice in an academic tertiary hospital setting in one of New Zealand’s fastest growing regions. We offer a wide range of rotations throughout the entire continuum of care ensuring that your career is provided with a solid foundation of clinical exposure and equipping you with the experience that you need to be able to work anywhere in the world. You'll collaborate closely with your peers to prioritise patient care, delivering focused and impactful therapy sessions that make a real difference to the lives of our patients and make an impact in one of New Zealand’s largest industries.
Key responsibilities
- To demonstrate the ability to delegate appropriately to AHA and manage non-clinical responsibilities in a timely manner.
- Prioritise, efficiently and effectively manage own clinical caseload.
- To work as part of the team and to assist in other clinical area’s as service needs demand. Supporting the wider team at times of high referral volume/vacancy/annual leave.
- To identify and collaborate on quality improvement and service development.
- After appropriate orientation and training to supervise third year observational students and for more experience staff to supervise fourth year physiotherapy students.

About the Service
The Physiotherapy service has approximately ninety staff including Physiotherapists, assistants and administrators that work across the large geographical area that is Te Whatu Ora, Waikato. We have staff based at Waikato Hospital, our secondary hospital in Thames and our 3 rural hospitals in Tokoroa, Te Kuiti and Taumaranui and across our many community bases in areas such as Morrinsville, Matamata, Cambridge, and Ngāruawāhia.

Our mission is to ensure that patients receive excellence of care, that our staff are supported and trained to work and maintain levels of evidence-based practice and that our service is equitable, efficient and effective in order to meet the needs of our patients and their whānau.

About you
Required attributes, skills and experience:
- Current NZ physiotherapy registration and APC or new graduates in the process of obtaining their APC.
- Passion for learning, be adaptable to change and be eager to gain clinical experience across a variety of clinical areas.
- Evidence-informed assessment and treatment skills.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Mentor and train junior clinicians and students.
- You will need the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as part of the physiotherapy and wider multi-disciplinary team across a variety of environments.
- You will have excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with patients, their whānau and other health care professionals.
