We provide a patient-focussed and technologically innovative pharmacy service and are expanding our team to accommodate the uplift in oncology treatment services.
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders. About the role
We’re thrilled to offer a Pharmacy Technician opportunity within the Waitematā Inpatient Pharmacies as part of our Northern Region Cancer & Blood Service - Te Pūriri o Te Ora, delivering high-quality care to patients across Northland and Auckland Metro. Click here to view the position description.
In the past year, the New Zealand Government has increased funding in the medicines budget by over $600 million over four years, for publicly funded provision of 33 new cancer and 33 new non-cancer medicines. It is estimated that 92,240 patients across the country will access these medicines in the first year.
This was accompanied by new funding for Health NZ to ensure the increased capacity to deliver these medicines is in place and care can be distributed into communities and rural settings. This is a brilliant opportunity to provide care closer to where people live.
Health NZ is undergoing an unprecedented period of development in cancer care. To make this work, we need a skilled, progressive, and passionate pharmacy technician to step into a newly created role.
As a Pharmacy Technician you’ll be part of a dynamic, collaborative, pharmacy team, working together with the multidisciplinary medical oncology team, delivering patient-focused care, contributing to service development, and quality improvement. In playing a key role in expanding cancer and blood services, you’ll bring your technical expertise, a commitment to continuous learning, and a passion for equitable, evidence-based cancer care.
You will also be undertaking operational tasks, including but not limited to inpatient dispensing, compounding, and refilling of Pyxis MedStations. Your focus will be on processing of biologic and cytotoxic infusions to support the expansion of the LDO service.
This is a full-time permanent position, working 40 hours per week spread over a Monday - Friday roster with occasional rostered Saturdays or Sundays and public holiday involvement at our North Shore Hospital site.
You will demonstrate the values of the Te Whatu Ora Waitematā Pharmacy team. We are the country’s leading hospital for innovation and the first to introduce electronic medication management systems. These include electronic Prescribing and Administration, Pyxis MedStations, eVitals and eNotes. Our promise to our patients is “Best Care for Everyone”, and our shared values include “everyone matters”, “with compassion”, “connected” and “better, best, brilliant”.
