Operational Team Lead Technician – Middlemore Hospital Inpatient Pharmacy

Middlemore Hospital is seeking a motivated and forward-thinking Operational Team Lead Technician to join our inpatient pharmacy team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. About the Role
Reporting to the Medication Supply and Systems Manager, this role provides day-to-day leadership, coordination, and supervision of Pharmacy Technicians within the inpatient dispensary.
You will play a critical role in:
- Coordinating technician education, training, credentialing, and validation
- Ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality medication supply services
- Supporting quality assurance, compliance, and audit readiness
- Driving continuous improvement and service development

Key Responsibilities
- As a Pharmacy Technician, you will be part of delivering a digitally enabled pharmacy service that supports inpatient and outpatient care across Middlemore Hospital and satellite sites (including the Manukau Health Park)
- Lead workflow, rostering, and task allocation to ensure safe and efficient service delivery
- Supervise and support Pharmacy Technicians, managing operational demands and issues
Provide real-time supervision, support, and escalation management for Pharmacy Technicians
Coordinate technician training, education, and competency validation
- Mentor staff to build capability and strengthen professional practice
- Support incident review and SOP development to ensure quality and compliance
- Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and a culture of accountability
Working with the Medication Supply and Systems Manager, manage complex operational issues, including prioritisation, resourcing, and conflict resolution.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- NZQA National Certificate in Pharmacy (Technicians) Level 6 (or equivalent)
- Minimum 4 years’ hospital pharmacy experience in operational services
- Experience in training, mentoring, and developing technicians
- Strong understanding of pharmacy legislation, standards, and audit requirements
- Proven ability to lead workflow and manage service delivery pressures
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Preferably have competency with pharmacy systems such as Pyxis, MedChart, and ePharmacy
