Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora is seeking a dynamic, experienced nursing leader to drive the strategic and operational success of our Northern Region Hospital in the Home (HiTH) Network.
Hospital in the Home services are transforming how acute and specialist care is delivered bringing hospital-level treatment directly to patients in their own homes and communities. This role offers you the opportunity to lead integration across the Northern Region, reduce inequities, improve patient outcomes, and shape the future of HiTH services both regionally and nationally.
About the role
As Nurse Director, you will provide strong professional and operational nursing leadership for the Regional HiTH Network. Working in a shared leadership model alongside the Regional Clinical Lead and Regional Operations Lead, you will:
- Lead the development and implementation of a regional HiTH Network Plan focused on equitable, high-quality, sustainable, and whānau-centred care.
- Drive service integration, clinical pathway development, and workforce planning (including advanced practice roles such as Nurse Practitioners and RN prescribing).
- Embed Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and address health inequities for Māori, Pacific, and other communities.
- Monitor performance against national and regional targets, including length of stay, readmission rates, and quality metrics.
- Build strong relationships with district nursing leads, stakeholders, national networks, academic partners, and whānau.
- Contribute to national HiTH leadership and the implementation of clinical guidelines and standards.
- Champion innovation, continuous improvement, and professional development for HiTH nursing teams across the region.
You will be highly visible across the Northern Region, working from your primary base while engaging regularly with services, teams, and partners. This is a strategic leadership role with real impact on how care is delivered closer to home.
Essential qualifications and experience
- Registered Nurse with current Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
- Postgraduate Masters qualification in Nursing.
- Proven clinical leadership experience in Hospital in the Home (HiTH) services.
- Contemporary advanced nursing practice experience.
- Demonstrated success in leading service improvement, change management, and performance monitoring.
- Strong experience working in partnership with Māori, applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles (including Wai 2575) in practice.
- Experience collaborating with whānau, lived-experience leaders, and multiple stakeholders.
- Full drivers licence required
