About the Role

Te Toka Tumai is one of the largest maternity hospitals in Australasia, with approximately 6,500 babies born each year. We are a tertiary referral centre and the national referral centre for babies needing specialist surgery or medical interventions. We also provide primary maternity care to women in the Auckland area.

We have three inpatient areas; Tamaki ward (secondary care), Ward 98 (Tertiary care) and Whitinga Ora Pēpi (neonatal transitional care). We are looking for experienced midwives to join our team of Clinical Midwife Specialists in Whitinga Ora Pēpi.

As Midwife Specialist you will be:

  • Supporting and guiding our midwifery and nursing staff across our inpatient areas
  • Overseeing the management and admission-to-discharge planning specific for these whānau
  • Actively manage day to day service flows, access, workforce and resources in collaboration with the wider maternity service
  • Coordinates day to day delivery of maternity care, actively managing and monitoring quality, risks and safety
  • Coordinates timely transfers and discharge planning
  • This role will cover a 24/7 service

About you

We are looking for midwives with knowledge and experience in:

  • Postnatal care, care of the late preterm infant and care planning for these whānau, lactation and breastfeeding.
  • A commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for wāhine and pēpi
  • Able to work in a small team
  • Compassionate and respectful
  • Holds a leadership portfolio in QLP pathway or working towards it, holds or commenced a post-graduate qualification
