An opportunity for a highly motivated and passionate Kaimanaaki has become available at Te Whatu Ora, Counties Manukau District – Te Kaahui Ora, Maaori Health. We are a team of experienced Clinical Nurse Specialists, Registered Nurses, a senior Social Worker, Kaumatua, and Kaimanaaki who are dedicated to improving health outcomes for Maaori with the support of our Tikanga Team and Clinical Leadership Maaori Team.

Our Kaimanaaki are primarily responsible for supporting Maaori through their healthcare journey. Ensuring our values of manaakitanga, kotahitanga, whanaungatanga, and rangatiratanga are upheld whilst ensuring service delivery is responsive to the needs of whaanau. Our Kaimanaaki ensure effective whaanau engagement and participation in the planning, implementation, delivery and evaluation of services. Our Kaimanaaki will also work closely with our Clinical Nurse Specialist – Maaori, however will function as part of the wider Maaori Health. Our Kaimanaaki will competently navigate both Te Ao Maaori and Te Ao Pakeha and be able to effectively develop and manage relationships to get the best outcomes for the individual and their whaanau.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate excellent relational skills, the ability to work as a team member, is adaptable and flexible to change, loves a challenge, and has some experience in health (although not essential). The ideal candidate will have:

  • A good understanding of Maaori health paradigms
  • An understanding of the hospital/health system and some of the challenges for Maaori
  • Advanced Level of Te Reo me ona Tikanga
  • Ability to work in a complex changing environment
  • Restricted or full NZ driver’s licence
