About the Role
As a Health Care Assistant in the Gastroenterology Department, you will support the nursing and multidisciplinary team by providing essential clinical, clerical and technical assistance. Your day will be varied - from helping ensure patients feel comfortable and supported, to preparing equipment, managing supplies, assisting with delegated tasks once trained, and maintaining accurate documentation.
You will uphold patient privacy, treat everyone with dignity and respect, and play a key role in keeping the department running smoothly. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys teamwork, takes initiative, and is motivated to learn and develop in a busy specialty environment.

About the Team/Service/ Location
The Gastroenterology Service at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldier Memorial Hospital provides specialist assessment, treatment and procedures for patients with a range of gastrointestinal conditions. You’ll work closely with nurses, medical staff, allied health and administrative colleagues in a fast‑paced, supportive setting that prioritises high‑quality, patient‑centred care.

About you
You are caring, reliable and committed to supporting patients and staff. You will have:
- Experience in a caregiving or support role.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Respectful, patient‑focused approach, with strong attention to confidentiality.
- Initiative, adaptability and willingness to learn.
- Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and commitment to culturally safe, equitable care.
Desired:
- NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 2 or 3).
- Experience applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice.
