About the Role
As a Health Care Assistant, you’ll work alongside Registered and Enrolled Nurses to provide hands‑on support that contributes to safe, high‑quality patient care. Your role will be varied - from assisting with patient comfort and daily activities, to helping maintain a clean and organised environment, supporting clinical tasks once trained, and completing essential administrative and clerical duties.
You’ll work in collaboration with the wider multidisciplinary team, treat all patients with dignity and respect, and help ensure care processes run smoothly across the unit. This role is well‑suited to someone who enjoys working with people, is reliable, compassionate, and committed to making a positive contribution to patient wellbeing.

About the Team/Service/ Location
You will be part of the Medical/Respiratory Service at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldier Memorial Hospital, working with a supportive nursing team, allied health staff, administration and wider hospital services. Our team environment values cooperation, professionalism and excellent patient care.

About you
You’re a caring, motivated and organised person who enjoys supporting others and working as part of a busy clinical team. You will have:
- NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) – Health Assistance, or be enrolled and actively working toward it, or be committed to starting within six months of employment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- A respectful and patient‑centred approach.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues and whānau.
- Reliability, initiative and a willingness to learn.
- Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to culturally safe care.
Desired:
- Experience applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice.
