About the role:

At Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau, an amazing opportunity is waiting for you in our Critical Care Complex unit, based at Middlemore Hospital.

The Critical Care Complex which is both the Intensive Care Unit & High dependency Unit is the specialist care given to patients with acute (sudden), potentially reversible, life-threatening diseases. This may include patients who have life-threatening conditions such as a major accident, burns injury, spinal cord injury, severe infection or those recovering from a major operation. 

The Health Care Assistant in Critical Care plays an essential role in maintaining a safe, clean, and well-prepared clinical environment for patients. This position is responsible for bedside stock replenishment, equipment cleaning, and preparing patient spaces for new admissions, with a strong focus on infection prevention and control standards. Working under the direction of Registered Nurses, the Health Care Assistant also supports patient care activities, including assisting with patient repositioning, transfers, and mobility, helping to promote patient comfort, safety, and wellbeing.

Our new team member must also be highly organised, able to prioritise, have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy building relationships with our patients and the wider team.

These are 12 hour rostered shifts, that have to be flexible and includes weekends and public holidays.

Essential:

  • 2+ years Health Care Assistant experience in New Zealand
  • Level 4 NZ Health Care Assistant certificate with 1+ years HCA experience in New Zealand
  • or NZ Level 3 Health Care Assistant certificate with 2+ years HCA experience or equivalent (to be assessed) in New Zealand
  • Good communication skills
