About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join our dynamic General & Vascular Surgery Ward on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave. This 0.8FTE position (64 hours per fortnight) is ideal for a passionate nurse who enjoys the fast pace of surgical nursing, values teamwork, and is committed to delivering high-quality patient care.
You will play a key role in supporting patients through their surgical journey, managing acute post-operative care, and contributing to positive patient outcomes. About the Team/Service/ Location
Our General & Vascular Surgery Ward is a busy, acute 36-bed inpatient unit caring for a wide range of surgical patients. You’ll be working within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team that values collaboration, clinical excellence, and person-centred care.
The ward provides care for patients undergoing general, vascular, breast, endocrine, and hepatobiliary surgeries. We pride ourselves on being a supportive and inclusive team that fosters a positive working environment.

About you
You are a compassionate and motivated Registered Nurse with a current New Zealand Annual Practising Certificate (APC), committed to providing high-quality care and making a real difference in the lives of surgical patients.
You thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment and have the ability to remain calm and organised under pressure. Your excellent clinical judgement, attention to detail, and proactive approach ensure patients receive safe, timely, and effective care. You value collaboration and understand the importance of clear communication and mutual respect in a multidisciplinary team setting.
You will bring:
- A current New Zealand Nursing Council APC
- Sound clinical knowledge and nursing assessment skills, ideally with experience in surgical or acute care
- A commitment to patient-centred care, ensuring dignity, safety, and respect in all interactions
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with patients, whānau, and colleagues
- Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and adapt to changing clinical situations
- A passion for learning and professional development, including a willingness to complete any required surgical or acute care upskilling
