Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Dental Assistant to join our Auckland Regional Hospital & Specialist Dentistry Services. This permanent, full-time role is a key supporting role for our dentists & specialists providing dental care to adults and children in clinics and operating theatres across the Auckland region, including but not limited to Greenlane Clinical Centre, Starship Children’s Hospital, Auckland City Hospital, Waitakere Hospital, Middlemore Hospital, Buckland Road Community Dental Clinic, and Quay Park Specialist Day Hospital.

Our Dental Assistants work in a friendly team environment with great mentoring and support.

Your role will encompass:

  • Chairside assisting in clinics and operating theatres
  • Following all Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Practice Standards as per Dental Council of New Zealand IPC Practice Standard
  • Preparing instruments for reprocessing and sterilization process
  • Working collaboratively with clinicians in a range of dental specialties at multiple locations
  • There will be opportunity for project work and continuing education
  • Department working hours are Monday – Saturday, 8.00am to 4.30pm

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

As the ideal person for this role you will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Qualified or working towards completing the NZDA Certificate in Dental Assisting
  • Preferably 2+ years proven experience in dental assisting. We would accept expressions of interest from applicant without previous experience with the potential to train
  • Good understanding of the practical application of infection prevention and control procedures in dental practice
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of professional groups in a multidisciplinary bicultural environment
  • Effective time management, prioritisation and organisation skills
  • A flexible, pro-active approach with excellent communication and interpersonal skills

The remuneration for this position is covered by a collective agreement (PSA Allied, Public Health Scientific Technical MECA)

Salary Range: Technical/non-degree qualified scales (Group B) Step 3 $72,074 to Step 7 $86,719 depending on expereince
