About the Role
As a Consultant Psychiatrist, Laison Psychiatry you will play a key role in delivering high-quality care and support within our service. Your day-to-day work will involve working across the Emergency Department, inpatient wards, and specialist medical services, providing expert consultation-liaison psychiatry input and ensuring patients receive safe, effective, and equitable care.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a forward-thinking health system while developing your skills in a supportive and dynamic environment. The service operates under a clinical governance model, with opportunities to be actively involved in service development, service planning, and quality improvement initiatives. Teaching and supervision of junior doctors and students, along with providing clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team, are core functions of this role.
There are also established specialty clinics using a liaison model, such as outpatient renal transplant assessments, with further opportunities to develop liaison networks across other medical services.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Team based at North Shore and Waitākere Hospitals provides a service to the Emergency Department, wards, and specialist medical services.
Our team works collaboratively to deliver patient-centred care and foster strong partnerships across services.
About you
You will bring:
- Vocationally registered Psychiatrist (or eligible for registration)
- Certificate of Advanced Training in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (or equivalent), or a willingness to undertake this training
- Experience in consultation-liaison psychiatry within hospital settings
- Commitment to teaching, supervision, and multidisciplinary team leadership
- Willingness to participate in the Adult Psychiatry SMO After Hours On-Call Roster
You will combine clinical credibility with sound organisational skills and a collaborative leadership style, fostering a supportive, family-friendly team environment while driving service excellence and continuous improvement.
