About the Role

Bring your clinical expertise into a service where psychological practice plays a central role in recovery focused care. As a Clinical Psychologist within the Tauranga Community Mental Health and Addiction Service, this position contributes to assessment, formulation, and therapeutic intervention for adults experiencing serious mental health conditions.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, the role supports Tangata Whaiora through comprehensive psychological assessment, behavioural analysis, and evidence informed therapeutic approaches. Clinical work includes developing psychological formulations, contributing to care planning, and supporting the wider clinical team through specialist psychological knowledge. The role also contributes to risk assessment treatment planning, and the development of strategies that support recovery and independence within the community.

The position offers a varied and stimulating clinical environment with opportunities to work alongside experienced clinicians, broaden specialist skills, and contribute to high quality mental health care across the Bay of Plenty.

About the Team/Service/Location

The Tauranga Community Mental Health and Addictions Service provides specialist assessment and treatment for adults experiencing serious mental health challenges. The team works within a recovery focused model of care that supports Tangata Whaiora to maximise wellbeing and independence within their communities. The multidisciplinary service includes Psychiatrists, Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, NASC clinicians, addiction specialists, peer support workers, and dedicated administration staff who work together to provide coordinated and compassionate care. Based in Tauranga, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to a growing service within a region known for its coastal lifestyle, warm climate, and lush golden beaches.

About You

You will be a thoughtful and skilled Clinical Psychologist who brings strong assessment capability, sound clinical judgement, and a commitment to recovery focused practice. Your approach reflects deep understanding of psychological theory, assessment frameworks, and culturally responsive care. Comfortable working within a multidisciplinary environment, you contribute specialist knowledge while building strong relationships with Tangata Whaiora, whānau, and clinical colleagues.

What you will bring:

• New Zealand registration as a Clinical Psychologist with a current Annual Practicing Certificate, or eligibility to obtain registration
• Postgraduate training in Clinical Psychology and relevant postgraduate study
• Strong knowledge of psychological assessment processes including behavioural analysis and formulation development
• Experience applying current psychological theory and conceptual frameworks to clinical assessment and intervention
• Competence in risk assessment, metal status examination, and clinical interviewing techniques
• Understanding of psychometric assessment tools relevant to secondary mental health services
• Awareness of cultural influences and the wider social context within psychological assessment and care planning
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary mental health service supporting recovery focused care
