As part of significant national investment in cancer care and new cancer medicines, we are expanding local oncology delivery across the Waitematā district.
We are seeking exceptional Clinical Nurse Specialists’ (CNS)- Oncology to lead advanced clinical practice and help shape the future of cancer care for our communities across North and West Auckland.
This is a pivotal senior nursing role supporting adults living with cancer and receiving Systemic Anti‑Cancer Treatment (SACT) across community infusion centres and inpatient settings. As part of a nationwide investment in new cancer medicines and nurse‑led models of care, you will be at the forefront of delivering services “closer to home” while ensuring outstanding safety, quality, and equity.
As our CNS Oncology, you will provide expert clinical leadership, coordinate complex care, and support seamless patient journeys across the region. You will work closely with Local Delivery Oncology (LDO) nurses, Nurse Practitioners, SMOs, and multidisciplinary teams, influencing oncology pathways and service development at local, regional, and national levels.
This is an opportunity to become a recognised clinical leader in a service undergoing exciting transformation-enhancing access, supporting Māori health equity, and embedding excellence in SACT delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership:
- Provide advanced nursing expertise and mentorship to nursing teams within SACT infusion units.
Collaborative Care:
- Partner with Medical and Radiation Oncology specialists and multidisciplinary teams (MDTS) to deliver integrated, patient-centred care.
Acuity Management:
- Serve as the primary clinical resource for patients, whānau, and staff when acute presentations occur within SACT units.
Strategic Delivery:
- Contribute to the senior nursing leadership team to enhance regional patient flow and ensure excellence in nurse-led, “closer to home” service delivery.
About the Team/Service/ Location

About you
You are an experienced oncology clinician with advanced nursing skills, a passion for service improvement, and the ability to inspire and influence others.
You will bring:
- Current NZ Registered Nurse APC.
- Postgraduate qualifications (preferably at master’s level) with a commitment to pursuing Nurse Practitioner and/or Prescribing pathways.
- RN Level 4 (or equivalent) with extensive oncology experience.
- Chemotherapy (ADAC) certification and expert knowledge in SACT.
- Proven ability to manage complex clinical situations and support acute clinical decision‑making.
- Commitment to bicultural practice and reducing inequities for Māori.
- Strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
