We are part of Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, the overarching organisation for New Zealand’s national health service. HNZ leads the day-to-day running of the health system, with functions delivered at local, district, regional and national levels.
About the role:
We are looking for an experienced oncology nurse to join us. We are currently advertising for:
- 0.5 FTE Maaori Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) – Medical Oncology, who will contribute to the future of health care in the South Auckland area by providing clinical expertise and leadership in the Medical Oncology Infusion service. You will play a key role in advancing innovative service models while embedding equity-focused and culturally responsive practice across all services. A core responsibility of the role is coordinating care for Maaori with complex health and social needs, ensuring culturally safe and equitable access to service and supporting the safe transition of care to appropriate local and regional services. A good understanding of Te Reo and Tikanga is required.The role upholds the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, actively contributing to equitable health outcomes for Maaori through partnership with whaanau, advocacy within health system and leadership that supports culturally safe care across the cancer pathway.
This role includes:
- Clinical Leadership: Provide advanced nursing expertise and mentorship to nursing teams within SACT infusion units.
- Collaborative Care: Partner with Medical and Radiation Oncology specialists and multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) to deliver integrated, patient-centred care.
- Acuity Management: Serve as the primary clinical resource for patients, whaanau, and staff when acute presentations occur within SACT units.
- Strategic Delivery: Contribute to the senior nursing leadership team to enhance regional patient flow and ensure excellence in nurse-led, "closer to home" service delivery
Essential requirements:
- Registered with the NZ Nursing Council
- A minimum of 3 years recent clinical experience in an oncology setting with knowledge in SACT, the ability to manage complex clinical presentations and adverse reactions and chemotherapy certification.
- A commitment to biculturalism and achieving equitable health outcomes for Maaori.
- Strong communication skills with an ability to build regional relationships.
- Post graduate qualifications with a commitment to ongoing education.
