About the Role

The Nurse Educator is responsible for promoting, facilitating, and providing clinical education to maximise healthcare delivery, enhance patient/tūroro/tangata whai ora outcomes, and promote clinical excellence and evidence-based professional nursing practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate education and professional development programmes for neonatal nursing staff.
  • Promote evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Facilitate clinical teaching, simulation training, and bedside coaching.
  • Assist staff to achieve clinical competencies and career development goals.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve neonatal care and patient outcomes.
  • Foster a culture of learning, excellence, and continuous improvement.

This is a permanent part time position; you will be working 24 hours per week between Monday-Friday on 8 hours day shifts based at the Whangarei Hospital.

About the Team/Service/Location

The Neonatal Unit provides comprehensive care for unwell or premature babies from the Northland region. It offers services for babies born in Northland and more than 32 weeks gestation, as well as for those born less than 32 weeks until transfer to a tertiary hospital.

The Neonatal Unit is located in the recently completed facilities in the Te Kotuku Building at Whangārei Hospital. This is a 10-cot unit.

About you

  • Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) and a current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC)
  • Relevant Post Graduate Certificate/Diploma or working towards
  • At least 7 years post registration experience with at least 3 in relevant specialty area
  • Be able to identify, plan and facilitate learning activities and education programmes relative to your practice area
  • Ability to communicate information effectively and accurately, both orally and in writing.
  • Is skilled at relating to and building rapport with others, and in maintaining harmonious and supportive working relationships
  • Has the ability to work independently, as well as the ability to be an excellent team player
  • Has a strong commitment to patient safety, quality improvement and ensuring an excellent standard of care delivery
  • Demonstrates cultural competency and understands its application to nursing/midwifery practice
