Clinical Coding Training & Quality Co-ordinator

About the Role

As the Clinical Coding Training & Quality Co-ordinator, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring Te Toka Tumai Auckland maintains a highly skilled and future-ready clinical coding workforce.

 You will lead and coordinate clinical coder training, development, mentoring, and quality assurance activities, ensuring coding standards, accuracy, and productivity are consistently achieved.

The role also contributes to strategic service development, system enhancements, coding audits, stakeholder engagement, and national clinical coding initiatives.

Working closely with the Clinical Coding Manager, you will help shape the future capability of Clinical Coding Services while supporting high-quality health information management across the organisation.

About the Team/Service

The Health Information Management (HIM) Service plays a vital role in supporting patient care, health planning, funding, reporting, and service delivery through the accurate capture and management of health information. The Clinical Coding team is responsible for translating clinical information into nationally recognised classifications that inform healthcare funding, service planning, research, and quality improvement initiatives. About you

You will be a skilled clinical coding professional and educator, applying your expertise in training, quality improvement, and leadership to support workforce development and help shape the future of clinical coding services at Te Toka Tumai Auckland.

Essential requirements:

• Completion of an approved Advanced ICD-10-AM Clinical Coding Course
• Current Clinical Coder Certification
• Proven experience as a clinical coding trainer
• Proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
• Sound understanding of health information management principles
• Experience managing classification system upgrades and/or clinical coding audits
• Experience analysing and interpreting coding, casemix, and related healthcare data
• Intermediate competency in Microsoft Office applications and experience using clinical coding systems such as 3M Codefinder and TurboCoder
• Demonstrated understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to achieving equitable health outcomes for Māori

Desirable:

• Recognised training qualification
• Tertiary qualification in Health Information Management
• Qualification and experience in clinical coding auditing
• Experience developing clinical coder training programmes
• Management experience within a complex healthcare environment
• Experience with MS Access, SQL reporting, SharePoint, user acceptance testing, or system development activities
