About our department
The Neurosurgical Department at Auckland City Hospital provides care for patients with conditions or trauma involving the central and peripheral nervous systems. We deliver high-quality services to patients across the Auckland region, offering a comprehensive range of secondary and tertiary neurosurgical care along with quaternary care for patients across the North Island.
We are looking for a Business Support Manager to provide business and operational support, with a strong focus on continuous service improvement. It is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to strengthen and develop their operational management skills, knowledge and experience while playing a pivotal role in ensuring resources are utilised effectively to achieve health targets.
About the role
In this role, you will support the Service Leadership Team by providing leadership, business, and operational oversight of all administrative services. You will ensure agreed service outcomes are achieved, with a strong focus on patient-centred care and equitable access.
You will play a key hands-on role in the day-to-day operations of a service that manages a high proportion of acute and high priority patients. Working closely with Business Manager, you will drive continuous improvement initiatives to meet health targets and enhance patient care and experience. Your role will involve assisting in quality improvement projects, ensuring delivery of targets, day-to-day changes in timetables, sourcing adequate leave cover and liaison with the patient administration services team.

This is a full-time, permanent position (40 hours per week). The successful candidate will be employed by Te Toka Tumai Auckland and primarily based at Auckland City Hospital, with responsibilities that include providing support at various sites across the Auckland region.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will bring the following skills and attributes:
- A tertiary qualification in health sciences, business, or a related field
- Operational management and business analysis experience
- Demonstrated business acumen and relationship management capability with a collaborative team based approach
- Excellent written, reporting, and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated strategic thinking and planning ability
- Proven ability to influence, negotiate, and drive outcomes
- The ability to build and maintain effective working relationships within multidisciplinary teams
- Strong statistical and analytical skills, with a high level of numeracy
- Moderate to advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, macros, and data analysis techniques
- Project management experience, with the ability to deliver initiatives on time and within scope
- Excellent organisational skills and sound decision-making capability
- Well-developed negotiation, conflict resolution, and change facilitation skills
- A proactive mindset, strong work ethic, and a demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvement
Previous experience within the health sector will be highly regarded.
