  • We are looking for a talented Māori Midwifery Leader/Kaiwhakahaere Kahu Pōkai and Manager to join Te Toka Tumau Auckland as our Associate Director Midwifery with a primary portfolio of Māori Health and Equity. 
  • Other responsibilities and portfolios will be negotiated after appointment and in association with the wider midwifery leadership team.

About the Role

You will lead work to develop our Te Tiriti partnership across the directorate and to embed the principles of Turanga Kaupapa into everyday midwifery practice. You will further develop and lead the implementation of the Māori and Pacific midwifery workforce development plan. Oversee and lead Māori midwifery initiatives and provide cultural advice across women’s health services. You will be focused on ensuring excellence in midwifery and maternity care to Wāhine, pēpē and whānau and to achieving equitable outcomes for women of all cultures and from all socioeconomic environments.

You will join our Midwifery and Women’s Health leadership teams at Auckland District Health Board. This role will report to the Chief Midwife and with a ‘dotted’ reporting line to He Kamaka Waiora.

About you

You will be a highly skilled and experienced midwifery Leader and clinician with expertise across the full scope of midwifery practice in Aotearoa. You have a passion for midwifery practice, for Māori midwifery workforce development and career pathways and working to achieve equitable outcomes for all Māma, Pepi and whānau, particularly those from communities currently experiencing inequity in our health and maternity services.

You are a strategic leader and manager with a focus on ensuring that the principles of Turanga kaupapa are embedded within and inform midwifery practice throughout the Te Toka Tumai midwifery workforce. 

You will be an integral member of the Te Toka Tumai Midwifery Leadership team and the wider Northern Regional Midwifery Leadership team.
