The opportunity:

We are searching for an expert clinical pharmacist to lead and deliver an innovative, profession-leading service within our busy Emergency Department at Middlemore Hospital. This is a unique opportunity to bring advanced clinical pharmacy practice into one of the most dynamic, challenging and rewarding settings in healthcare. Through pharmacist-led clinical pathways supported by agreed clinical governance frameworks, you will improve patient outcomes, support timely access to care, and contribute to shorter stays in the Emergency Department for our patients.

Working towards the top of your scope as an Advanced Pharmacist Practitioner, you will practise with a high degree of autonomy while collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary team in ED to assess, investigate, prescribe, treat, and discharge patients in a fast-paced environment where clinical expertise, sound judgement, and timely decision-making are critical to delivering safe, effective, and patient- and whaanau-centred care.

This role offers the opportunity to develop and shape an innovative model of care, provide clinical leadership, and drive the advancement of pharmacy practice within emergency care. You will make important contributions to measurable improvements in patient flow, service delivery, and health outcomes., while helping to define the future of advanced pharmacy practice within Health New Zealand.

We are looking for a pharmacist who is/has:

• Postgraduate qualification in Pharmacist Prescribing recognised in New Zealand
• Registration as a Pharmacist Prescriber in New Zealand with current APC
• Completion of recognised training and/or internal competency assessments in clinical assessment and diagnostic skills relevant to the role and emergency care practice
• A minimum of 8 years' hospital pharmacy experience, including at least 5 years of recent clinical practice in Emergency Care (and/or another relevant specialty area)
• At least 2 years’ experience working as a Specialist Clinical Pharmacist (Advanced Clinician)
• Advanced clinical expertise and the confidence to practise with a high degree of autonomy in a complex acute care environment
• A passion for innovation, service development, and advancing the role of pharmacists within multidisciplinary healthcare teams
• Proven clinical leadership experience, including contributions to service improvement, professional development, and quality initiatives at local, regional and national levels.
• Skilled in research, evaluation, and audit
• Compassionate, resilient, adaptable, and thriving in an MDT environment
• An excellent communicator with sound problem-solving skills
• Able to work flexible hours in a fast-paced emergency care setting
