Medical Education Fellow– 0.5 FTE (Fixed term part-time)
Waitematā District provides services to a population of more than 640,000 people and employs around 8800 staff. The part time Medical Education Fellow role is an opportunity to gain broad professional experience and learning in medical education and leadership with career-long impact. The purpose of this role is to optimise the learning environment within Waitemata for both undergraduate clinical students and PGY1s and PGY2s and contribute to the prevocational programme, through education, training and support. This may include facilitating, evaluating and developing the education programmes, providing professional or clinical support to prevocational doctors, and providing near-peer liaison between the students and the medical education teams, as part of the multi-disciplinary workforce.
The role reports to the Manager of the Medical Education and Training Unit (METU) but works within the wider METU team including the Director and Associate Director of Clinical Training. The Medical Education Fellow will work closely with the Waitemata campus team of University of Auckland to contribute to undergraduate learning, and will work with the METU team to ensure prevocational training is maintained and improved. This role works in partnership with the full-time Medical Education Fellow, providing cross-cover as required while supporting the delivery of key education initiatives.
The role is a 12-month fixed term position (commencing in January 2027) aligning with the clinical training year.

The candidate we are looking for will have:
- A current Annual Practicing Certificate with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Be a PGY2 with endorsement removal in Jan 2027 or a PGY3+ trainee
- Have an interest in education and training with some experience in teaching, coordination, management and/or leadership experience in medical education
- Experience in complex health environments; preferably within Auckland
- The ability to connect with others to influence change
- Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to maintain confidentiality and be trustworthy
- Have interest and/ or knowledge and/ or experience in research
- The ability and enthusiasm for leading transformation for your colleagues
- Flexible, positive and a proactive problem-solver
- An understanding that medical education has a direct link to patient care
- Time management skills with the ability to prioritise
- A record of punctuality and good attendance
- Sound clinical skills and references
