Psychiatry Registrars

Live, learn and train in one of the most liveable cities in the world!

The Northern Region Psychiatry Training Program (Hinengaro Akonga o Tokerau) is the largest psychiatry training program in New Zealand. We are one of the best across Australia and New Zealand and are the best springboard to a career in Psychiatry.

The training program is led by locally trained psychiatrists who have completed training within the last decade. As such, we understand and acknowledge the challenges trainees may face in vocational training and dedicate considerable time, effort, and energy in ensuring that our training program focuses not only on educational needs, but also on the needs of each individual trainee. You will be supported by a director of training and a training facilitator in every rotation in addition to your consultant psychiatrist supervisor.

Our training program offers a comprehensive and diverse range of training experiences found no where else across Australasia. Auckland is a multi-cultural melting pot, and your work and training experience will be reflective of this as you rotate through the three primary training areas (North/West, Central and South). Throughout your psychiatry training you will be supported by enthusiastic supervisors and a passionate and dynamic training team.

You will also get to live in Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city which offers a mix of city life with forests, beaches, and coastal walkways to enjoy at your doorstep.
