The Northern Region Psychiatry Training Program (Hinengaro Akonga o Tokerau) is the largest Psychiatry training program in New Zealand. We are one of the best across Australia and New Zealand and are the best springboard to a career in Psychiatry.
The program is led by locally trained psychiatrists who have completed training within the last decade. As such, we understand and acknowledge the challenges trainees may face in vocational training, dedicating considerable resources to fulfilling not only educational requirements but also the unique needs of each trainee. You will be supported by a director of training and a training facilitator in every rotation in addition to your consultant psychiatrist supervisor.
You will be exposed to exclusive training experiences not found elsewhere in Australasia. Auckland is a multi-cultural melting pot, and through your work and training you will be immerse in diverse clinical settings and unique hands-on learning opportunities as you rotate through the three primary training areas (North/West, Central and South).

o An academic psychiatry position working in close collaboration with the University of Auckland

o Forensic Psychiatry training
o Intellectual disability training with two established rotations

o Weekly teaching during the university semester (day-release teaching)

Eligibility and how to apply
· There is no need to have completed a psychiatric run previously; all you need is an interest and a passion for psychiatry.
· You need eligibility for general scope registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
· Candidates will be ranked for interview eligibility based on their cover letter and CV
