About the Role

We are looking for a New Zealand registered Speech and Language Therapist to join our dedicated, supportive and friendly Adult Speech-Language Therapy team based at Auckland City Hospital.

We currently have a permanent part time opportunity available, with the likelihood of the role becoming full time in the future. This role is based in the acute adult inpatient service. We would consider splitting this role with another role in the service for the right applicant based on the needs of the service. 

As the ideal candidate you will:

  • Assess and manage both communication and swallowing impairments due to a variety of disorders in an acute setting.
  • Have an understanding of the assessment and management of voice disorders, delivering evidence based clinical care
  • Develop your skills in the use of FEES, and videofluoroscopy, with exposure to tracheostomy management
  • Collaborate with team members and other work groups to achieve service objectives
  • Work on developing positive working relationships with our clients / patients/ whānau
  • Coaching and supervising colleagues
  • Committed to professional development and continually striving for improved patient care and experience

About the Team/Service/ Location

This role is based at Auckland City Hospital. The Speech-language Therapy team is highly skilled and part of the larger Allied Health team in Clinical Support Services. The Speech-language Therapy team work across a range of specialist areas including stroke, neurology, rehabilitation, respiratory, trauma, general medicine, oncology, haematology, neurosurgery, other surgical wards as required and older person’s health. The adult inpatient Speech-language team work alongside the ORL and critical care Speech-language Therapy subservices, in a range of extended scope of practice areas including FEES, VFSS, SVR and tracheostomy management.

About you

As the ideal person for this role, you will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Bachelor's qualification in Speech-Language Therapy or equivalent
  • Registered member of the New Zealand Speech-Language Therapists’ Association (NZSTA) with current Annual Practicing Certificate
  • 1-2 years of proven experience working as a Speech-Language Therapist in a hospital setting is desirable
  • An understanding of bicultural issues and commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of professional groups in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Effective time management, prioritisation and organisation skills
  • Drive, energy and initiative with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
